Hi bloggy readers,
When deciding to export and import blog posts from one blog to another blog, you must have one good reason why you choose to move to another blog, because migrating blog is a big decision to make. If you are in this situation, then you have to prepare it right. Anyway, there are lots of reasons why bloggers want to export and import blog posts their old blogs to another ones. And these are maybe their reasons:
- Maybe they want to delete their blogs but they want to keep the articles they have written in that blog to the new ones,
- Or maybe they want import their blogs from Blogger to Wordpress.
Backing up blog is different with backing up template. Backing up blog means we have to download/export the whole posts we have written in our blog to the computer in the form of xml file. When we are ready to export and import blog posts to another blog, we can just simply upload the xml file we've already got, to the new blog via the control panel (Dashboard - Setting) of our blog.
First Phase: Downloading the Blog Post file
1. Log in to your Blogger Account
Firstly, now Sign in to your Blogger account.
2. Go to Setting
In the Dashboard of your Blogger account, now pick one of your blog, and then press the Setting button. You will be brought to the new page contains the whole configurations of your blog. From setting up your blog on search engines, changing the domain, customizing blog elements, or even sharing authority to other authors can be done here.
3. Press the link "Export"
Now in the Setting page, right on the top position, you will see 3 options that will maintain the life of your blog, from exporting, importing and deleting blog can be done in this area. For this tutorial, i want to show how to backing up blog that later will be migrated as a file to another blog. Now press the link Export Blog. After that, press the Download Blog button and save the xml file in your Computer
Second Phase: Uploading back the Blog Post to the Migration Blog
4. Go back to the Dashboard
Now, go back to the Dashboard page on your Blogger account and then pick the new blog you've already prepared before as a migration blog.
5. Go to Setting
After choosing the new blog, now go the Setting of that new blog.
6. Press the "Import Blog" link
In the Setting page, now press the option Import Blog. You will be prompted with the option to upload the xml file you've already saved in your Computer. After locating the xml file in your Computer, now press Open. Don't forget to type the verification code in the required field. For the option Automatically publish all imported posts, can be switched on/off if you want/don't want the blog posts you are about to upload to be automatically published in the batch mode.
7. Choose the articles you want to publish
Now wait for the process until the xml file has been successfully uploaded to your new blog. After the process finished migrating all the blog posts, now you will be automatically brought to the Edit Post page. In this page, you can decide what articles you want to publish or not, which can be saved in draft.
